Richard Wathen

Richard Wathen graduated with MA Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art & Design, London in 1996 after completing his BA (Hons) Fine Art at Winchester School of Art in 1995. He has exhibited at prominent galleries and institutions globally. Wathen paints ambiguous fictional portraits where the age and gender of the subject are often uncertain. They are contemplative and questioning, and most often address the audience directly. In consideration of the Cubists’ idea of portraying multiple viewpoints simultaneously, Wathen applies the notion to time, portraying people at more than one point in their life concurrently.
