Peter Ashton Jones

Peter Ashton Jones graduated from Kingston University, London with BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting in 1987. He is a vastly experienced artist, writer, curator and educator. His most recent paintings, taken from ‘plein air’ drawings of the Sussex Downs, are fundamentally about the luminosity of the world, echoing the illuminated medieval landscapes of the Labours of the Months found in Books of Hours. In other work Ashton Jones embeds narratives deriving from the personal, political, historical and mythological to disperse clues that guide us towards an uncertain destination. His ongoing series ‘The Theatre of the Red City’ is a response to our shared experience of life in lockdown during the Covid pandemic.
